Batch1: Sitio Ibayo

The same river that surged out of it’s banks is where 1in3out decided to meet with the people of Sitio Ibayo, a small village of 200 families that resides within the banks of the Marikina River. Just outside Manila, the area was within the destructive reach of Typhoon Ulysses in November 2020. Still fresh from the receding flood, the travel was muddy and wet. The makeshift wooden bridge used to cross the river was destroyed by the flood. The village is now only accessible by boat. But at the end of that boat ride, we were welcomed by the smiling and hopeful faces of the village’s residents. We share with them the gifts from abroad, as they share with us their stories of survival. Clothes to keep them warm and dry, in exchange for tales that warm and melted our hearts. At the end of the day, we strived to make a difference in their lives while they gave us a new perspective of life.
